"Some maps can only be read after they have burned."
A real career journey carried into fantasy. The epic of a gem-mage who climbed to the top of the crystal towers, did not find what she was looking for, and chose to write her own formula — an epic of the street, not the palace.
"Ash is the oldest fertilizer of the soil.
And some maps can only be read after they have burned."
"Most of what chases you is really chasing your shadow.
Shrink the shadow, and the trouble shrinks."
"This is not an epic of arrival.
It is an elegy of the journey."
"The problem was not in my spell calculations. The problem was the Formula of Fate pressed into all our palms on the day we were born."
Prologue: The Sealed Scroll"Once you have seen the sky,
you see it wherever you look."
"My name is Zümra. And this is the map I drew from my ashes."
Prologue: The Sealed Scroll"Over Arkenos falls not snow but ash. And ash is the oldest fertilizer of the soil."

I have spent more than twenty years in finance; I have seen the towers and the ashes alike. I wrote this novel in the hours left over from work, to tell the lessons of that journey in the language of a tale. Zümra is fictional; her falls, her stubbornness and her risings are real. Dedicated to everyone who wants to write their own formula.
